We all love some freebies, don’t we? So, once in a while why not give your followers some treats? Whatever products or services you offer, for sure, you can whip some interesting giveaway ideas to delight your loyal followers.

Easy Steps on How to Do a Giveaway on Instagram

Step I: Identify Your Goals

Before you get excited in thinking about what product or service to give away to your followers, you should first set your goals for your campaign. Once you have identified what you are trying to achieve, it will be easier to think of the right giveaway to satisfy your goals.

And you can clearly identify your goals by asking yourself these questions:

  • Am I doing this to target potential customers and attract more sales?

  • Am I doing this to gather leads for my email marketing campaign?

  • Am I doing this to create a buzz on my product launch?

  • Am I doing this to reach as many Instagram accounts as possible and gain more followers?

  • Am I doing this to drive traffic to my site’s landing page?

  • Am I doing this to encourage user-generated content surrounding my brand?

Some of the common giveaway ideas and/or prizes are photo contests, referral contests, coupons, share entries, prize package, gift cards, getaway, free one product for one-year, and so on.

Step II: Choose the Prize or Incentive

The key to choosing a prize or incentive is “relevance.” If you want to veer away from freeloaders, then you’ve got to choose a prize that is related to your business or to your brand. This way, you are more likely to attract only your target audience and gain more favorable results from your campaign.

Step III: Set Clear Giveaway Rules

One of the primary purposes of running a giveaway is to expand one’s reach, and not to lose potential clients. So, you need to set clear guidelines before you share your giveaway post to avoid disappointing your new and loyal followers.

You should be clear with the number of winners, the steps on how to enter the contest or giveaway, the rules and restrictions, and the duration. Make sure that your followers know the exact time and day where they can still participate.

To be certain, ask every entrant to head on to your site for the complete entry requirements. Some of the common rules in a giveaway is to like the post, follow the account, and tag a friend in the comments.

Step IV: Create a Catchy Giveaway Post

Once you are done with the previous steps, you are now ready to launch your giveaway. But before that, you need to create the actual post that you will share on your social media accounts, especially on Instagram.

Remember that Instagram works primarily on visuals, so the image of your post should be striking, yet not to the point of being disturbing or busy. And don’t worry if you don’t have experience with graphic design. You can use Canva to easily create artistic and catchy images that suit your taste and would work well with your Instagram feed.

And of course, aside from your image, you need to pay equal attention to your text. Make sure that you are able to announce the giveaway efficiently. To guide you with your verbiage, you can check out the copies of your competitors and of your favorite brands to gather some inspiration.

Step V: Run an Instagram Giveaway Ad

Running an ad can kick start your giveaway and help you reach as many potential followers as possible quickly. However, your campaign’s “reach” still depends on your budget and the effectiveness of your copy.

You can even run a Facebook ad. And if your giveaway is only exclusive to your Instagram followers, just let them know to view this post on Instagram and follow the guidelines on how to join. Also, one way to spice up your ad is by adding a campaign hashtag that you can ask your followers to include in their Instagram posts or stories depending on your guidelines.

Step VI: Remind and Update Your Followers Regularly

Sharing one post announcing your giveaway is not enough, even if you are running ads. You need to remind your followers on how much time is left before your Instagram contest will end. This will encourage them to join if they haven’t joined, yet, to add more entries (if you permit depending on your guidelines), and to invite their friends to join, as well.

Step VII: Announce the Winner and Evaluate the Campaign

You can pre-select the winner and announce directly on your account, or you can draw the winner through Instagram Live (a feature on Instagram Stories). If you choose the latter, you can print the names and put them in a box or bowl where you will pick the name of the winner. Or you can use Wheel of Names or other name picker tools online.
